8th May Newsletter

Read all about it!

Greetings sharp shooters.

First of all a quick reminder about the club AGM. It is at 11am on Sunday the 19th May down at the club regardless of weather. We need to discuss what improvements we want to make at the club and agree what the coming years membership fees should be. We pride ourselves on being a club that is run by its members so your views and ideas are important. Please make every effort to attend.

We can also welcome two more new members to the club. Both Doug and Kristiaan are very welcome and fit in very well with the rest of us. So far the twisted sense of humour we have has not yet put them off. Kristiaan looks likely to add to his collection very soon by purchasing a PCP. In the mean time we now have a large number of members with springers so I suspect it will not be very long before we hold another springer competition.

We now have some replacement doors to act as a new backstop for pellets on the zeroing range thanks to Chris Walton who should be thanked for coming early (his wifes words not mine!) last Sunday and helping to “Erect” them. The only problem is the pellets fly straight through the targets and both sides of the door into the metal plate at the back. Chris is our resident carpenter and claims he can trace his carpentry family line as far back as year 0000 to a village called Nazareth in what is now called Israel. I wouldn’t be surprised if that is where the doors came from. Anyone who has a solid wooden door with at least one flat face they don’t want and is happy to donate it to the club would be most welcome.

Unfortunately in spite of being able to call on friends in “high places” neither Chris nor The Apprentice (Mark) could shoot well enough to beat “Rising Star” (Me). So Rising Star remains undefeated on the competition range. Boring!

The precaution of coming up with highly original excuses in case of losing before having a go on the competition range has reached a very high standard. So much so, we are now going to list these in the club hut. I will publicise these from time to time in these newsletters but it has to be said that some are really getting a bit far fetched. Reasons like not having had any breakfast or, the dog was ill during the night are not really valid (and they are the clean ones)!

For those that haven’t looked lately, Ross has put some great photos on our website. They are well worth a look. Ross is now our resident club photographer and is open to weddings etc. Not to do photos though, he just likes going to weddings.

I will not be down this Sunday as it is the last home match of the season so I will be watching my team Stoke City lose to Spurs at Stoke. See you all at the AGM on the 19th.

Best Wishes

Mike Colley
